Social bookmarking has gone too far!
hmm, book’em danno!
like every great invention “social bookmarking” suffers from freeloaders who’d like to jump on the bandwagon to make a few quick bucks. arrrrggh, whom i kidding? today’s social bookmarking is a sucker. why? i’ll tell you…
because we’d probably don’t need it if every internet user would have his/her own server and install some cheesy little php-script which would do the bookmarking job for them…
ok, not everyone has his own server, not everyone’s a programming-guru and approximately 96% of the surfers aren’t able to spell their own names.
combined with the fact that more and more people own more than one computer (six here, not counting the laptops ;)
…this makes perfectly sense! (hm, changed my mind… ;))
but not in the way it is today. every john doe and the johnsons thinks they should have a social bookmarking site…
this sucks. like barry schwartz said in his fabulous book “the paradox of choice“: less is more! (or the other way around…, has nothing to do with the un*x command…)
imho, we’ll do perfectly well with using del.icio.us, furl and simpy. all others please shut down at once. here is some social crap i’ve found:
de.lirio.us
what the f*ck? another untypeable ***o.us domain…
not only confusing the user with the domain name (we got used to del.*.us) but also with a bloody cheap installation of scuttle.
they didn’t even care to change the skin (or create a theme by themselves).
hopefully the “del” in de.lirio.us stands for “delete yourself immediately”. you guys suck!
ma.gnolia.com
seems people are running out of ideas on domain names…
hey! i should’ve registered ewebem.com! i could put my totally mindless webpage at duk.ewebem.com and be the buzz of the week! all you wanna-be webmasters out there: stop splitting domain names in sub-domains so they make eventually sense.
this was already boring in 1998!
mister wong

huh? a german social bookmarking site called mister wong? shouldn’t they rather have a name like “herr schmidt”, “hans bookmark” or something? ;)
be honest: if you’d think of germany you’d think of beer, autobahn, blonde girls with big, luscious hooters…
…but wouldn’t think of some chinese bald guy! (unless you’ve got a very, VERY, VERY big sexual problem… yuck! :-/)
anyway, at least they’ve got some own features. but overall this site is needless. (i’d call it heidi.com, just for being a “german brand”…)
icio.de

a great example of “we jump on the rolling train (name)”…
hey! www.icio.de, how sick sounds that?
del.icio.us is at least a funny name… (and imho the only .us domainname that should be allowed). copying that to a german domain (maybe there a some other tlds using this, didn’t check (yet!)) makes perfectly NO SENSE AT ALL!
go bury yourself!
more as we speak…
scuttle was/is a fine idea.
but people like de.lirio.us, icio.de and most others are abusing the (good, i might add) concept of social bookmarking and are trying to make a quick buck out of it.
i admit choice is crucial in a free world, but please shut down your websites and give the credit to those who had the “social-”idea at first…
to the users: choose the bookmarking service which isn’t overloaded with fucking adsense “we-monetize-your-site” ads. that’ll put the counterfeits out of business… ;)
